Preservation Revitalization Beautification The
Topsfield Main Street Foundation, Inc. was incorporated in March 2001
as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization. It's mission is to
strengthen and promote the downtown center through a partnership with
business, local government and the community at large while preserving
the Town's unique historic character and natural resources.
Topsfield's Main Street is a member of the National Trust for Historic
Preservation created 25 years ago to stem the decay of downtown centers. Topsfield's Main Street Program grew out of widespread concern about the appearance and lack of services in the downtown center. At a well attended public forum conducted by the Planning Board, citizens and Town officials discussed and clarified the issues. A Downtown Study Committee appointed by the Board of Selectmen in the fall of 2000 then determined that the National Trust for Historic Preservation's successful model would best suit a town of 6,200. Serving as facilitators, the Board of Directors now draws on the talents and resources of all segments in the community to develop and implement projects that fulfill the mission.
